35 years! Wow.

OBrien 4677I am celebrating ( and I really do mean that word ) my past 35 years in this insurance world this week. Sometime in the first week of September 1979, I started working for my dad in his office at the corner of Lawrence and Cherry Streets in Glens Falls. I remember thinking that since I didn’t know what I wanted to do, I’d take my dad up on his suggestion that I try insurance. I guess I’m still wondering what I should do with my life, but 35 years is a long time pondering!  I guess I’ll continue to take it day by day and see what THE plan is!

I have often thought of what my life would be like if not for all the people I have met in the past 35 years.  New clients, my Father’s clients before I got here ( many who are still with us ), the many insurance company professionals, the awesome people who have worked here at our agency, people I deal with in the business world, new people “on-line”. The emotions of doing a good job for someone, helping then out of a tough situation in their life especially a death or devastating fire or the many storms we’ve been through.  Calming them over a cancelled bill, helping them get through the “teen” driving years, speaking to groups of young people at local schools about insurance issues.  Teaching “insurance 101” to Small Business people at SUNY Adirondack.  Sharing insurance issues with the ARCC Leadership Group every year.  And so many other situations.

obrien-insurance-blog-postI do not know what my future has in store for me. Thirty-five years ago, if you had told me that I would be doing insurance for a career, I might have been surprised. I was just “testing the waters”! But now I know that this was to be my path and am so grateful for it. But MOST of all, I am ever thankful to those who I have met on this path!  And look forward to those who I have still to meet and those who continue on this path as I write this. THANK YOU!
